As our opening title sequence is quite a slow, period piece, so I feel that younger audiences may not be as captivated by it as an older more educated audience. Maybe it is the mindset of the younger generation, but I believe that something that is in black and white accompanied by slow pans does not captivate an audience of my age as much as a fast cutting piece set in the modern day. Although it was decided that after this opening sequence, it would jump too 30 years into the future, too reveal that ‘The happenings of Mary wild’ is actually an unfinished case and the rest of the thriller would involve cuts backwards and forwards in time trying to figure out the mystery of the case. This means that it expands the audience, as it is not all a black and white period piece, however this is aimed to be an intellectual piece, more about the concept than action. Therefore the audience would have to be people who are willing to sit through a whole movie, concentrating, rather than some other types of films under the genre of thriller, which can have less of a storyline. Considering all these points I would see our film being watched by a more middle-aged audience who are well educated and likely to be middle or upper class. Therefore the way we would sell the film to this demographic is as an intelligent thriller. I don’t think the viewers of the film would be specific genres, however the violence, even in our title sequence is not graphic and there would be no particularly action based scenes, so adhering too the stereotypes, this would make it less appealing to a male audience, especially a young one. However as it is more of a middle class audience, I don’t think there would be a particular difference between whether a male or female would want to watch it, as they would be watching it purely for intellectual reasons, therefore making both sexes level.
